~The pictures don't begin at the exact beginning of this project. The very start of this project included a couple brave souls that began the ground breaking! Sandra, Doug, Marcie, Richard and a couple others removed the old preforms, and began the task of excavation on both ponds. Not easy work when dealing with heavy, wet, caliche soil!

Carlos and his brother than removed the 3 truckloads of dirt from the site.

Many thanks to the next series of volunteers that helped move and transport pond materials to the SPCA center and over to the work site.

Now, as seen above, this is the EASTER WEEKEND in which all club members were invited to the work site now that all PREP work was complete. A great turnout of over 20 members.

Everyone working hard on something! The donated flagstone had mud caked on it's top and bottom side. Here we see two members scrapping the rocks, getting them ready for placement later.
Doug (the master pond builder behind all this work) pictured here overseeing Keith on the left side pond, as he excavates a support inset lip for the cinder blocks to rest on. Cinder blocks were used to create sturdy walls for the pond. Re bar and concrete were then put inside to further maintain structural integrity.
Richard and Stan working on the right side pond to level the uppermost level of the pond. Care must be taken when doing this as to not have a HIGH or LOW side to the pond. Stan's remote control laser level was a great gadget to use, however any water or bubble level is just as accurate on smaller ponds.
Here Richard contemplates the intricacies of life, the marvels of evolution, the mystery, passion, and history behind eastern religions... hmmmmm... or maybe he's just trying to get those two blocks level with one another ?!?! :P
